Steve Winwood , Ray Lamontagne , Alison Krauss to appear in the 41th annual festival
With floods severely damaged the Planet Bluegrass Ranch in Lyons last fall, it has been a difficult year for the organizers of the Telluride Bluegrass Festival .
And yet, despite all backhoes and foundation work, displacement and reconstruction, Planet Bluegrass was able to put together a stellar lineup for the 41th annual festival, said Brian Eyster, director of communications Planet Bluegrass’.
“In the midst of all that, the alignment Telluride Bluegrass came out as one of the best ever," Eyster said. "We're really looking forward to it.”
The full line, which opens Wednesday, has big names like Steve Winwood, Nickel Creek, and Ray Lamontagne, Bela Fleck rare collaborations with Brooklyn Rider and a grand finale as both Alison Krauss and Del McCoury bind to Telluride House Band Sunday night near.
These newly added acts previously announced bands like Brandi Carlile, Andrew Bird & the Hands of Glory, Punch Brothers and Aoife O'Donovan join.
“There’s kind of something for everyone," Eyster said. "It is a very broad line ... all artists that I think is going to find inspiration in others. We're very excited."
The festival is scheduled to take place 19-22 June at the city park and other places around town.
Four day passes to the public sold out in a record eight minutes December, most single-day tickets sold out soon after, and all of the locals 1000 four-day passes were available through Telluride Music Company were sold in January. However, Planet Bluegrass Thursday still has tickets available on its website, and will be the resale of tickets that are returned through the spring.
As usual, the line features a mix of basic food festivals and events that have ever graced the stage , traditional bluegrass sounds and genre- busting .
In the first category are John Cowan, Chris Thile, Yonder Mountain String Band, Peter Rowan and Sam Bush Band. Festival veterans Tim O'Brien and Darrell Scott play as a duo at the festival for the first time in over a decade, and Jerry Douglas presented the Earls of Leicester, a supergroup featuring O’Brien, Shawn Camp, Barry Bales Charlie Cushman and Johnny Warren.
Eyster said Earls will perform a full show Flatt and Scruggs - in.
"It will be a very fun game of traditional bluegrass with guys who really know their stuff ," Eyster said.
New acts of the festival, meanwhile, include rocker sur Jason Isbell, who played Bluegrass as part of the Drive -By Truckers in 2006 before his solo career took off, and Steve Winwood , prominent English musician , who has played a role important in rock and roll history with bands like the Spencer Davis Group and Traffic and hits like " Gimme Some Lovin ' ", " I cannot find my way home " and " Higher Love ."
Eyster said Bluegrass is delighted to welcome Winwood Bluegrass. Festival acts as Sam Bush have expressed their enthusiasm for sharing the stage with a heavyweight like rock and roll, he said.
"Obviously he is one of the greatest legends we've had in the festival," Eyster said.
Another new face will be Ray Lamontagne , a troubadour based in New England known for its beautiful folk songs and blues in silence . Lamontagne , who is about to release a new album produced by Dan Auerbach of the Black Keys, puts on an amazing show , Eyster said.
“He digs deep into his performances," Eyster said. "You feel as if you were opening yourself to an audience. It's a great show."
Along with a highly anticipated performance of his concerto with the Colorado Symphony banjo, Béla Fleck banjo assistant also played with the string quartet Brooklyn Rider. Leftover Salmon Festival favorites will play a set with Bill Payne of Little Feat. The David Rawlings Machine brings Rawlings and Gillian Welch popular mermaid return to the stage.
Dailey and Vincent, a respected bluegrass vocal group, the entire Gospel is presented Sunday. Newly reunified Nickel Creek Band will return to Park City for the first time in many years , Keller Williams will perform with McCourys Tourism and John Cowan, who has been giving concerts with the Doobie Brothers in recent years , will bring fellow Doobie Brother John McFee and friends to the stage. Up and comers like Front Country , Frank Solivan & Dirty Kitchen and Chatham County Line complete alignment.
And with the addition of Del McCoury bluegrass king - which is celebrating its 75th birthday this year - and the singer - with golden voice of Alison Krauss, closing performance Telluride House Band should be unforgettable, Eyster said.
"It’s going to be pretty epic," he said.
